Client: Award-winning New Zealand and Australian folk singer and songwriter Anna van Riel.
Brief: To create a beautiful, modern website to showcase her music, promote news and tours and to direct people to purchase her albums.
Anna is a talented musician based in the peaceful lakeside settlement of Hawea, near Wanaka. From her rural home base, she writes and performs original music that delights people of all ages. With her new interactive children’s album Cooking Up A Song, children and adults alike are being delighted by this ukulele playing mother’s cheeky humour, catchy tunes, and fun and imaginative lyrics. She recently won Best Children’s Song at the Australian Songwriters Association National Songwriting Awards for the title track – Cooking Up A Song.
When Anna came to us, she had an existing Wordpress website that needed a lot of work. We worked together to find a design that would better represent her style, and also position her correctly in the music market.
Inspired by some gorgeous imagery of her taken by Jodie Rainsford Photography, we created a colour palette of earthy, muted green and beige tones, accented by punchy dark forest green and grey. In the kids’ music and Doodlebug TV area, we brightened things up with some red, teals and mustard tones.
The website has a stylish, magazine-style feel, with a mix of serif and sans serif fonts to create a classic and timeless look. Open white spaces, minimalistic buttons and the use of large images create a calming and tranquil website browsing experience.
